Our Story
The Framers was established as one of the first businesses to emerge in the newly developed old Bird’s Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham during the early nineties. We have moved, expanded and evolved over the years, now including our own gallery space, and are proud to have been one of the longest established tenants at the Custard Factory. We moved to the beautiful Hampton Works building in Stirchley in early 2024 to share a space with our good friends Mission Print.
The Framers is run by me, Lawrence. I studied visual communication at university and have a visual arts background as well as a long career in framing, developing my expertise over the years, including conservation framing for municipal institutions and close collaborations with arts practitioners.
My dedicated team and I take pride in our shared knowledge and craftsmanship and are always happy to discuss any framing project with our valued customers.
Our business has framed for many established artists, photographers, archives, collectors, galleries, exhibitions and institutions, including works by Banksy, Peter Blake and Tracy Emin, and had the pleasure of framing all the work for Grayson Perry’s Art Club exhibition when it came to the MAC in Birmingham. We have framed pieces for the Saatchi Gallery and the V&A, and regularly work with many highly respected institutions such as The Herbert Art Gallery, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, The New Art Gallery Walsall, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Birmingham City University, Birmingham Library, The Hippodrome and the Rep Theatre.
We offer a highly crafted handmade framing service and with our onsite workshop facilities we are able to tackle all sorts of framing requests, from very large oversized pieces, high end museum-level conservation framing, photography and fine art, to memorabilia, football shirts, cricket bats, medals, object box framing and unusual objects, as well as the more standard printed artwork. We also offer a canvas stretching service, and limited delivery and installation by appointment.
